Shirley Shelton
Circuit Steward
I am Wednesbury born and bred, so a true Black Country ‘wench’, although I spent 5 years in Lincoln and 3 years in Scotland in between.
I came into the Methodist Church as a young girl after previously attending Friar Park Gospel Hall for several years. The reason for the move was not a spiritual one – I simply learned that my friends had new white dresses and sandals for what they called their ‘Sunday School Anniversary’ and I thought that was a brilliant idea.
My career has been as a Personal Assistant to a number of Chairmen and CEOs, my last appointment being as PA to the Principal of Sandwell College. I have loved my long employment, and met many wonderful people, but I am happy now to be retired.
I have taught Sunday School, led house groups of various ages and taken on a number of appointments within the Church during my time in Methodism; currently I am Church Secretary at New Road Methodist Church and help run our weekly Thursday Warm Space. I have been a Local Preacher for 47 years.
My support to our CLT membership is currently as Stationing lead and line-management of our Circuit Administrator. I am also on our Families Worker’s support group.
